Cong-RJD creating mischief over burqa: Yogi in poll rally
DANAPUR / SAHARSA, Oct. 17 -- While attending the nomination filing of party candidates from Danapur and Saharsa on Thursday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath lashed out at the RJD-Congress alliance in Bihar for opposing the Election Commission's directive on identifying women voters wearing burqas. He alleged that the opposition parties were "indulging in mischief" by creating unnecessary controversy over the issue.
The Election Commission had stated that anganwadi workers would be deployed at all polling booths to verify the identity of burqa-clad women voters. The Commission clarified that its guidelines on identity verification inside polling stations are clear and will be strictly implemented.
"Bihar, under the NDA's rule, is on a path of progress. At such a time, the Congress-RJD combine is creating mischief by raising an unnecessary controversy over burqas," Yogi said.
Criticising the alliance for opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list, he questioned, "Should fake voters be allowed to vote? The Congress and RJD want this to happen. That's why they're making such a fuss over burqas. They also oppose electronic voting machines (EVMs) because they want to return to the old system of ballot papers, which enabled their henchmen to capture booths."
Recalling the cultural bond between Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the UP Chief Minister said, "After the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Goddess Sita in Sitamarhi is also set for a facelift. We are working to enhance connectivity between the two places."
Reminding people of the RJD-Congress rule before 2005, Yogi said, "Everyone knows about Bihar's jungle raj and dynastic politics from 1990 to 2005. Those were the people who turned Bihar - a spiritual land of knowledge - into a hub of crime and family politics, pushing its youth into an identity crisis."
"How anarchy was spread here in the name of development is known to all. During that time, many youths who wanted to contribute to Bihar's growth were forced to migrate," he added.
Praising the Nitish Kumar-led government, Yogi said the NDA had worked to rid Bihar of its "stigma." "Over the last 20 years, the NDA government has effectively freed Bihar from that taint. Today, the double-engine government has once again come before you with a commitment to take Bihar's progress even further," he said.
Addressing an election rally in Saharsa in support of BJP candidate Alok Ranjan Jha, Yogi reiterated the NDA's commitment to development, law and order, and welfare for all sections of society. He also reminded people of the RJD and Congress leaders' sarcastic remarks over the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
"I have the privilege of visiting Bihar - the sacred land of Mata Janaki, the wisdom-filled soil of Lord Buddha, and the mother of democracy," Yogi said, adding that the NDA government would continue to drive Bihar's growth with greater speed, dignity, and pride....
