Cong questions nod for ABVP convention at Parade Ground
Dehradun, Nov. 11 -- The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee has questioned the state government and Dehradun district administration over granting permission to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for its three-day national convention at Dehradun's Parade Ground.
The Congress said the same venue was denied to the Congress last year for a public rally of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge.Addressing reporters at the state Congress headquarters on Monday, senior Congress leader and state vice-president (organisation) Suryakant Dhasmana said, "Last year, the Parade Ground was denied to us for the rally of our national president on the grounds that it could not be allotted for political functions. The government and district administration must explain how permission has now been granted for a three-day convention of the ABVP."
Dhasmana also objected to the naming of the ABVP convention venue as "Bhagwan Birsa Munda Nagar."
"We respect Birsa Munda, a great freedom fighter from Jharkhand, but it is surprising that no eminent personality from Uttarakhand was found worthy of being honoured in this way," he said.
BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said, "It is unfortunate that the Congress chooses to politicise everything. This only shows their frustration over continuous losses in elections," he said....
