PATNA, June 16 -- Key leaders of the Bihar Congress, including members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) and council (MLCs) and Members of Parliaments (MPs), had a marathon meeting here on Sunday under the leadership of All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge Krishna Allavaru to assess the state of the party's preparedness for the polls. The meeting, which began late evening at a hotel, brainstormed the electoral strategy, also discussed ways to bolster the party's claims on seats within the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc and scrutinised candidature of prospective claimants on various seats, said an MLA, present in the meeting. Earlier, talking to media persons ahead of the meeting, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) president Rajesh Kumar said that the crucial meeting has been convened to discuss the whole range of issues and concerns raised by senior party leaders. "All MLAs, MLCs and MPs have been called to discuss the way forward. Some of the MPs could not come owing to their pre-scheduled engagements," said, while parrying a reply on the number of seats the Congress is eying to contest this time. He said that the meeting would also discuss the progress of various types of campaigns undertaken by the party and assess the impact they have made to reach out to the masses. "We will also discuss how to strengthen the INDIA bloc in its fight to oust the Nitish Kumar-led NDA from power," added the BPCC chief. To a query regarding setting up the organisational structure at the grassroots level, the BPCC chief said that the party is currently in the election mode and hence organisational restructuring has been put on hold. "However, all leaders and workers are working in tandem to strengthen the organisation and bolster the electoral prospects," added Kumar. A senior leader present in the meeting said that the party had begun the process of identifying the seats it wanted to contest under the INDIA bloc. "Seat-wise analysis was done and the list of constituencies, on which the Congress is comfortable to contest and win, would be submitted to the party high command after the meeting," said another MLA. AICC in-charge Allavaru exhorted the party leaders to focus their strategy on sensitising the masses about the party's promise to dole out Rs.2,500 to every qualified girl and woman, raising the bar of reservation and intensify 'har ghar jhanda' drive up to village level.
