Cong holds meet for state elections
PATNA, Sept. 10 -- Leaders of the state Congress huddled at the house of Congress chief Mallikarun Kharge in presence of leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday and prepared a roadmap for the state's upcoming assembly elections.
Focus of the meeting was to discuss seats the party intends to fight within the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, a coalition that includes the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the CPI, CPM, and CPI-ML Left parties, the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), and the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP). The group is also working hard to pull in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Pashupati Kumar Paras's Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP), aiming to build a stronger front against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
What made this gathering stand out was the debut appearance of Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav). He rode to victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as an Independent but has long been a quiet supporter of Congress. Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) head Rajesh Ram, AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, treasurer Ajay Maken and other prominent leaders including Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Ranjeet Ranjan (Pappu Yadav's wife and fellow MP), Tariq Anwar and Mohammed Jawed participated in it. After about three hours of intense talks, Allavaru told the media, "We discussed strategies on various aspects including campaign, manifesto, seat-sharing and candidate selections, apart from reviewing the previous activities carried out by the party in the state." Underscoring the meeting's wide-ranging scope, he added, "We will announce the seat-sharing deal among the INDIA bloc as soon as possible and come out with clarity on that." This comes right after a preliminary huddle on September 6, with a big follow-up set for tomorrow, September 10, in New Delhi, where RJD's Tejashwi Prasad Yadav - the bloc's key opposition voice - will help seal the deal.
The conversations didn't stop at seats; they delved into feedback from Congress's ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra, a grassroots drive calling out what the party sees as shady election tricks by the NDA. Allavaru's words highlighted the party's push for unity in Bihar's 243-seat assembly race, where the opposition needs to stick together to shake things up....
