PATNA, July 11 -- A clerk of an inter-level college, who was allegedly subjected to custodial torture at Rampur Hari police station in Muzaffarpur district, was hospitalised on Wednesday. The victim, Vishal Kumar (29), had gone to the police station to register a robbery plaint but was instead detained and allegedly assaulted. Vishal, admitted to the hospital with multiple injury marks, claimed he was brutally assaulted by police personnel led by SHO Sujit Kumar Mishra on suspicion of being involved in the robbery. Narrating the incident to reporters, Vishal said that on Tuesday afternoon, while on his way to the Central Bank branch to deposit Rs.2.11 lakh, he was intercepted by two armed bike-borne criminals who snatched his bag containing the cash. "The incident occurred around 2.30 pm after I left Vishnudeo Narayan Singh Inter College. The robbers, at gunpoint, took away the college cash along with my wristwatch and ring," he said. He added that he immediately informed college staff and dialled the emergency number 112. Accompanied by police personnel, they visited the crime spot around 4 pm. "I submitted a written complaint at the police station around 6 pm. However, the officer on duty made me rewrite it in a particular format and refused to give a receiving copy," he alleged. "Later, I was taken into custody on suspicion of being involved in the robbery. The SHO pressured me to confess and threatened to kill me in a fake encounter. When I refused, he locked me in a room and brutally assaulted me with batons and boots," Vishal claimed. Muzaffarpur Rural SP Rajesh Singh Prabhakar said he has received information about the incident. "An investigation has been started into the allegations of police assault. An ASP-rank officer is probing it. Further action will follow after the inquiry report is submitted," he said....
