Colleague detained in Gaya Ji SI suicide case
GAYA JI, Aug. 10 -- A woman Sub-Inspector (SI) of police has been taken into custody and is being questioned in connection with the sensational suicide case of a fellow SI in Gaya Ji district. The woman officer was a batchmate of the deceased, officials said.
The deceased, Anuj Kashyap (30), a 2019-batch sub-inspector and media cell in-charge at the Gaya Ji SSP office, allegedly committed suicide in his rented house on Friday. He had been married two years ago, and his pregnant wife, currently in Delhi, was preparing for the UPSC examinations.
Describing him as a dutiful and sociable officer, Gaya Ji SSP Anand Kumar and his predecessor Ashish Bharti termed his death "very unfortunate."
His father, Bhawnath Mishra, uncle Anil Mishra, and other family members, who reached Gaya Ji late in the evening after being informed by police, alleged foul play. His father claimed that woman SI Sweety Kumari had been pressuring and blackmailing Anuj to divorce his wife and marry her.
The two had first met during their posting at Imamganj police station in 2022. He also alleged that she stole important documents and evidence from the room after the alleged murder.
Anil Mishra maintained that it was a case of murder, citing the condition of the body - one leg on the bed, the cord of his lower garment around his neck, and both hands blackened - as proof. "First he was murdered, and then it was made to look like a suicide," he alleged. The family has demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
House owner Sarita Devi told police that Anuj returned home at 1 a.m. on Friday. The woman SI arrived at 5:30 a.m., knocked on the door, and later attempted to break it open. Sarita informed Anuj's wife and the police over the phone. Police broke into the room and found Anuj hanging from the ceiling fan.
Following the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anand Kumar formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under City SP Ramanand Kumar Kaushal. The City SP said a case under Section 108 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment to suicide had been registered against SI Sweety Kumari, currently posted at Belaganj police station.
The accused officer has been taken into custody, and her and the deceased's mobile phones have been seized.
The SIT is examining technical data, call records, CCTV footage, and other evidence with the help of forensic experts, and is awaiting the autopsy report, the City SP added....
