CM to inaugurate Buddhist museum at Vaishali today
PATNA, July 29 -- Chief minister itish Kumar will Inaugurate the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa in Vaishali, around 72 kms from Patna, on Tuesday as part of its Buddhist Circuit Development Plan.
The CM had laid the foundation stone of the Buddha Samyak Darshan Sangrahalaya and Smriti Stupa, spread across 72-acres area, in 2019 an estimated cost of Rs.315-crore and it has been built as per schedule with pink stones brought from Rajasthan.
Announcing the inauguration through a post on X, the CM said that Buddhist monks and devotees from 15 countries would attend the function.
"This is a moment of pride for Bihar people. The environment-friendly campus has been designed aesthetically with ponds and trees, meditation centre, gallery and library to give memorable feel to the visitors," he added.
At the time of foundation stone laying, Kumar had said that he would be happy if the work on the museum and stupa is completed before the scheduled target of two and half years, and that has been achieved.
The CM was so particular about its completion and quality of work that he inspected it over a dozen times, including this year in April. Vaishali is yet another addition to the comprehensive plan of the government for developing its Buddhist sites to promote religious tourism and boost the state's economy.
The Stupa will house holy relics of Lord Buddha on the first floor that were kept at Patna museum. "This is the main attraction for devotees. Among all the relics of Lord Buddha found at six places, the one discovered in Vaishali is the most authentic and finds mention in the book of celebrated traveller Hiuen Tsang," he added.
Kumar said that with the inauguration of the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa, Vaishali, which gave world its first republic, would be established on global Buddhist map of India.
"It will provide greater insight into Buddha's life through depictions in the museum and people visiting Bodh Gaya and Rajgir will also visit Vaishali, a place of great historical significance. It will symbolise Bihar's great cultural legacy and Buddhist heritage. Vaishali is a land of women empowerment. It was here that for the first time, women were included in the Buddhist Sangh," he added.
The Buddha Smriti Stupa and Museum will showcase events related to Lord Buddha's life and Buddhist religion.
Bihar is considered the land where Buddhism flourished and has significant Buddhist sites, including the World heritage site of Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, capital of the ancient Magadha Kingdom, Nalanda,and Vaishali, famous as Buddhist pilgrimage centre....
