BHAGALPUR, May 14 -- Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 48 projects in Bhagalpur district, with a total estimated cost of Rs.208 crore. He also interacted with residents-particularly women-to gather feedback on the progress and impact of various ongoing schemes. Speaking to locals, the CM reaffirmed the government's commitment to development, stating, "Our government is committed to the cause of development. These projects will further strengthen the progress of the district." He expressed confidence that the newly launched initiatives would significantly benefit the local population. Among the major announcements was the foundation stone laying of Bhagalpur's third flyover, to be constructed at a cost of Rs.67 crore. The CM said that the flyover would help decongest traffic in the town area. Of the total projects, 32 were inaugurated at a cost of Rs.45.02 crore, while foundation stones were laid for 16 projects worth Rs.163.59 crore. Later in the day, Nitish visited Mukharia village under Jagdishpur block, where he attended a special camp organised as part of the Ambedkar Samagra Seva Abhiyan. He inspected various stalls and distributed benefits under different welfare schemes, including cheques, homestead land papers, Ayushman Bharat cards, ration cards, and keys to houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Women welcomed the CM with a memento and shared their feedback regarding ongoing development efforts. In another event at Bhagalpur's Sandy's Compound, on the concluding day of the Khelo India programme, the CM used remote control to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several projects. He also interacted with young athletes present at the event. The CM was accompanied by deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, water resources and parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, MPs Ajay Kumar Mandal and Giridhari Yadav, MLAs Gopal Mandal, Lalan Kumar, Lalit Narayan Mandal, Pawan Yadav, and other senior officials. On the other hand, during the CM's visit, local JD(U) MP Ajay Kumar Mandal unexpectedly fell and sustained injuries. The incident occurred as he was walking behind the CM and reportedly lost his balance. While unconfirmed reports suggest a leg fracture, police confirmed that he is undergoing treatment at Bhagalpur Medical College and Hospital.
