Class 8 student dies, five injured after ambulance hits them
BETTIAH, Feb. 1 -- A Class VIII student was crushed to death and five others, including another student, were injured after a private ambulance, allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver, hit them in East Champaran district on Friday evening, police said.
Chhauradano station house officer (SHO) Prabhat Kumar said the incident occurred around 8 pm near the Jeep Stand on Nahar Road under Chhauradano police station limits in the Raxaul subdivision.
He said two students were returning home after attending coaching classes when the speeding ambulance, which was carrying a pregnant woman to a hospital for delivery, ran them over. Four other passersby were also hit by the vehicle.
"The driver was subjected to a breath analyser test, which confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol," the SHO said. "After hitting the two students, the driver tried to flee but lost control of the vehicle and ran over four more people," he added.
The deceased has been identified as Keshav Kumar, a resident of Bhelwa village under Chhauradano police station.
Among the injured, the condition of Akash Kumar (14), the deceased's cousin, was stated to be critical, police said....
