PATNA, Aug. 30 -- A heated confrontation turned violent on Friday outside the Sadaquat Ashram, the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) headquarters in Patna, as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers clashed with Congress activists during a protest march. The clash reportedly began when BJP workers, protesting against alleged abusive slogans directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent rally in Darbhanga as part of Rahul Gandhi's Voter Adhikar Yatra, marched towards the Congress office. According to witness accounts and police reports, the demonstration escalated when stones were allegedly thrown at the protesters, leading both sides to wield flagpoles as makeshift weapons. Congress workers claimed BJP activists broke the office gate, entered the premises, assaulted party members, damaged vehicles and hurled bricks. BJP leaders, including road construction minister Nitin Nabin and MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, who were present at the protest, countered that the violence was initiated by Congress supporters. Similar clashes were also reported from Ara and Muzaffarpur. Police intervened with mild force to disperse the crowd and restore order, but tensions remained high in the area. The Congress also hit out at the BJP, saying they would give a "befitting reply" to them. "This is happening with the government's involvement. Nitish Kumar is doing wrong," Congress worker Ashutosh told reporters. DSP (Law and Order) Krishna Murari Prasad told HT that on getting information, a police team immediately reached the spot. "We are currently investigating what happened and will proceed accordingly," he added. Diksha, Superintendent of Police, Patna Central, said, "Injuries have been sustained by people from both sides. The situation has been brought under control. Further action may be taken after investigation. We have received complaints from both the sides." Bihar Police have assured a thorough investigation into the clash, but no arrests have been reported yet. Congress has called for immediate action against the involved BJP leaders, vowing to continue their agitation undeterred. After the attack on the party office, the Congress condemned the attack, accusing the BJP of using political hooliganism to intimidate Congress workers amid the growing popularity of the Voter Adhikar Yatra and rising public dissent against the ruling party. "The attack on Bihar PCC office Sadaqat Ashram led by a sitting cabinet minister and other BJP leaders is an act of cowardice and will not deter us from continue to expose the massive Vote Chori being carried out in the name of SIR," said Congress general secretary KC Venugopal. He also demanded the Bihar police take strict and exemplary action, including the arrest of ministers and leaders responsible for the attack. In an apparent reference to the incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted on X: "Truth and non-violence will always prevail over falsehood and violence. Beat and break as much as you want -- we will continue to protect the truth and the Constitution." AICC media department head Pawan Khera also weighed in strongly via X, accusing the BJP of desperation and linking the clash to broader attempts to sabotage the opposition's campaign: "Their agents infiltrate our meetings and raise wrong slogans, and then these people make it an issue to divert attention from the Voter Adhikar Yatra. Earlier, they were caught photoshopping on the sanitary napkin issue. Their theft has now been caught. That's why they are panicked and now they have come to do hooliganism in our Sadaqat Ashram. Their ministers and MLAs are attacking our workers. But the country and the countrymen are watching all this, and now their hooliganism will not work at all." Congress state president Rajesh Ram said, "If in the next 24 hours, an impartial investigation of this attack is not done and action is not taken against the culprits, then the Congress party will be forced to launch a massive movement in the entire state." The BJP, meanwhile, has filed an FIR against the INDIA bloc over the alleged abusive remarks against the Prime Minister, escalating the war of words. Political analysts suggest the incident underscores the intensifying rivalry ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, with welfare schemes, electoral integrity, and personal attacks dominating the narrative....
