PATNA, Jan. 3 -- Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant arrived in Patna on Friday for his first official visit since taking charge, with a packed schedule planned over the next two days, including inaugurations, foundation stone layings, and engagements at the high court and Chanakya National Law University. On Friday, the acting Chief Justice of Patna high court, Justice Sudhir Singh, hosted a dinner at his residence in honour of the CJI. According to people familiar with the developments, the CJI will be received with a guard of honour at the Western Lawn of the Patna high court on Saturday morning. He will then inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple projects related to the Court. According to people familiar with the developments, his first engagements include inaugurating an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) building with an auditorium and digitally inaugurating the judges' guest house in Gaya Ji. "Justice Kant will also unveil the "e-ACR Nyay" platform, a digital initiative designed to modernise and streamline internal processes while enhancing efficiency and transparency. Later in the day, he will lay the foundation stone for several key infrastructure projects, including the annexe building of the Advocate General's office, an administrative block, a multi-level car parking facility, a dedicated IT building, a residential complex, and a hospital building. These projects involve an estimated investment of over Rs.300 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone of the Bihar Judicial Academy building in Potahi under Punpun block in Patna," an official said. In the afternoon, justice Kant will attend the convocation ceremony at Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) in Mithapur, Patna, as the chief guest. The event will be presided over by justice Sudhir Singh, the acting Chief Justice and chancellor of the university. At the convocation, he will deliver the address and award degrees and diplomas. A total of 34 doctoral and post-doctoral degrees, the highest number to date, will be conferred, along with 339 master's degrees and 761 undergraduate degrees. Seventy-six medals will also be awarded to students who have excelled academically, according to a CNLU communique. Justice Singh will preside over the function, with Supreme Court judges, justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Rajesh Bindal, attending as guests of eminence. On the occasion, the newly constructed Ashoka Auditorium and CNLU's Cyber Security & Digital Forensics Centre will also be inaugurated, highlighting the university's commitment to modern legal infrastructure, officials said....
