Chirag meets CM Nitish, says he will return to Bihar
PATNA, May 20 -- Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas or LJP-RV) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan on Monday morning called on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, which is seen as crucial ahead of seat sharing arrangement for the Assembly election later this year.
Chirag, according to reports, plans to plunge into state politics and contest the upcoming assembly elections.
The meeting assumes significance as Chirag has openly expressed his inclination to devote more time to Bihar politics at a time when the Opposition RJD has been relentless in its attack on Nitish Kumar, describing him as a 'spent force' and one who would not be at the helm post-election.
Chirag, along with Jamui MP Arun Bharti, reached CM's residence 1, Anne Marg, where Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary was also present.
"The talks revolved round a lot of issues related to Bihar and it was a good meeting. There is no vacancy for CM's post in NDA, which is being led by Nitish Kumar in Bihar. I am confident that after the election results, Nitish Kumar will lead the new government in keeping with the development mindset of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said Chirag, without elaborating if the talks involved seat-sharing or his own role in the state.
Maintaining that Nitish Kumar was leading the government on the lines of the PM's line of thinking, Chirag said that the NDA would contest the election with full understanding to form the next government with huge majority.
Later at a function of food processing ministry in Patna, Chirag reiterated that he would soon return to Bihar to work here and the guidance and love he got from CM early Monday morning had further strengthened his resolve. "The very purpose why I joined politics is Bihar and Bihari. I have openly said that I want to be back in Bihar at the earleist and I will be here," he added.
Arun Bharti, who was also with him, told media persons that the CM gave blessings to Chirag on his future endeavours and responsibilities. "Chirag also underlined the need for young leaders to come forward and take bigger responsibilities," Bharti added.
During the 2020 Assembly election, Chirag was seen as the spoiler for Nitish Kumar. LJP had then fought alone after differences over seat sharing and relegated JD-U to the third position with the lowest ever tally of 43 seats, even though LJP itself was wiped out in the process. The lone LJP MLA had later switched over to the JD-U.
"But a lot of water has flown down the Ganga since then and both Nitish and Chirag are sailing in the same NDA boat in 2025 and speaking of a united show; yet, in politics a lot happens behind the scene than what gets apparent. Political understandings are dictated more by personal aspirations and circumstances than anything else. Chirag is positioning himself for the future and he is aware he has time by his side," said social analyst Prof NK Choudhary.
Choudhary said that with Nitish Kumar holding the reins in the state, it was important for the NDA constituents to rally around him.
"It is quite natural for everyone to see Chirag's posturing with interest after whatever happened in 2020. Just as Nitish Kumar, Chirag is also a hard bargainer, as his father late Ram Vilas Paswan also was. With seat-sharing due, he is also playing his cards well to get his pound of flesh," he added.
Last time, seat-sharing arrangement had caused the rift between JD-U and the LJP and later also became a reason behind the split within the LJP, though both the factions remained with the NDA until last month....
