Chatra: 4 students die in collision; road blocked
Ranchi, March 14 -- A collision between a speeding car and a motorcycle claimed the lives of four teenagers on Thursday night at Chiraiyatand, under the jurisdiction of the Piparwar Police Station in Chatra district.
The victims, all students of the local Gyan Deep Vidya Niketan, were reportedly travelling on a motorcycle when a car approaching from the opposite direction lost control and struck them head-on. The impact was so violent that the motorcycle was ripped to pieces, and the front of the car was severely mangled.
Three of the teenagers died instantly at the scene. The fourth victim, identified as Sonu Kumar Mahto, was rushed to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in critical condition but tragically succumbed to his injuries during transit.
The news of the students' deaths sparked immediate outrage. Relatives, friends, and local villagers gathered at the crash site, blocking the Piparwar-Tandwa road for 15 hours. The protesters demanded immediate government compensation, employment opportunities, and other benefits for the grieving families.
The demonstration gained momentum with the support of Amba Prasad, the former MLA of Barkagaon, as angry locals refused to clear the area until their demands were addressed.
Chatra SP Sumit Kumar Agrawal confirmed the incident and the subsequent blockade. "The exact cause of the accident is currently being ascertained. After extensive dialogue with the protesters, the road blockade was finally removed," Agrawal stated.
While the police have launched a formal investigation into the speeding vehicle, the local community remains in mourning over the loss of four young lives. They also demanded proper compensation for the victims' next of kin....
