BETTIAH, July 27 -- A high-voltage drama unfolded at Bandhuwarwa, a non-descript village in Ramgarhwa block of Bihar's East Champaran district, after two armed criminals-holed up in a sugarcane field for hours following a Rs.5.35 lakh loot-were forced to surrender late Friday evening, police said.
Bihar's director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar commended the swift action, stating, "For the first time, non-DIU (District Intelligence Unit)-based policing and real policing action has come to my notice. All concerned should be rewarded."
The incident began around 6 pm on Friday after two criminals looted Rs.5.35 lakh from a Customer Service Point (CSP) at Mushhari Tola under the Ramgarhwa police station.
Acting on intelligence, police traced the criminals to a nearby sugarcane field and launched a massive operation involving personnel from five police stations, who quickly cordoned off the area.
As darkness fell, villagers joined the police in the operation, helping illuminate the field with torchlights and mobile phone flashlights.
In a video of the incident, a police officer is heard announcing over a loudspeaker, "You are surrounded by the police. Surrender if you value your life."...
