BETTIAH, Dec. 26 -- 26-year-old Sakibul Gani, who created history by scoring the fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket during an ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday expressed confidence that his performance would propel his career to the next level at the national stage. Speaking to Hindustan Times over the phone from Ranchi, Gani who scored 128 off 40 balls studded with 12 sixes and 10 boundaries in a record-breaking century in 32 balls, said his performance has all the makings to draw the attention of the IPL franchises. "For the past four years, I have been waiting for my turn in IPL. Unfortunately, things did not go the way I wanted it to be," said Gani, a lad from Motihari in Bihar's East Champaran district, who created sensation smashing a triple century in debut appearance in Ranji Trophy match against Mizoram in February 2022. Among his professional priorities, Sakibul said securing a place in the Deodhar Trophy and earning a chance in the next edition of the IPL were key goals, besides delivering strong performances in the remaining four matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. "I am confident that things will fall in place. There is no reason why I can't fancy my chances of being picked in an IPL team auction if I perform well in the remaining matches," said Gani, referring to fixtures against Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland. He added that modern-day cricket demands adaptability. "In today's competitive cricket, a player needs the ability to play shots all around the ground and adapt according to the demands of the situation," he said. Back home, Sakibul's brother Faisal Gani, who also coaches and mentors him, said the cricketer has been undergoing rigorous training for five to six hours daily. "We have all the necessary training equipment at home. Recently, we added a ball machine capable of delivering balls at speeds of up to 160 kmph, along with various deliveries," Faisal said....
