Jamshedpur, Nov. 3 -- The state statistics department will conduct an online pre-test for the 2027 Census between November 10 and 30 in Jamshedpur's Mango area, the only municipal zone in Jharkhand selected for the exercise, officials said on Sunday. "For the listing of houses and enumeration of households for the first phase of the 2027 Census, a pre-test will be held this year. As per the directive of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Karn Satyarthi, a training programme will be organised in Mango this month," Krishna Kumar, deputy city commissioner (DCC) of the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), told Hindustan Times on Sunday. Kumar said the MMC area is the only municipal region in Jharkhand chosen for the pre-test. "This pre-test will be conducted in Mango from November 10 to 30. It will serve as a rehearsal for the 2027 Census. This time, both the pre-test and the Census will be conducted online. During the last Census in 2011, enumerators were provided with physical forms, and the exercise was conducted offline. Details of all families were manually filled in these forms," he said. He added that the pre-test will cover wards 2, 4, and 5 under the MMC. "As per the directive of the Census Work Directorate, Ranchi, master trainers will train 66 enumerators and supervisors for the pre-test from November 3 to 5 at RVS Academy on Dimna Road. The state nodal officer, Dilip Kumar, and the assistant director uploaded the relevant data to the Census portal on Saturday," Kumar said. A Census official said that the directorate has developed a software that will allow enumerators to upload family details directly on the portal. "Enumerators will download the software and log in using their IDs and passwords. They will go door to door, click photos of houses, and upload them along with family details. Geo-tagging will be done on the spot to ensure the data is uploaded from the actual location. Any mismatch in location will help detect irregularities and minimise manipulation," the official said. Officials said that East Singhbhum deputy collector of land and revenue (DCLR) Sachchidanand Mahato has been given additional charge as district statistics officer (DSO) in the absence of a regular DSO. Mahato is expected to take the charge on Monday. The Census, conducted every 10 years, was last held in 2011....
