case registered against RJD MLA in Rohtas for assault, probe underway: cops
SASARAM, Oct. 13 -- A criminal case for wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and assault has been registered against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA from Dehri, Fateh Bahadur Singh, at the Ayarkotha police station in Rohtas district, police said.
According to police, the MLA was on his way to meet voters at Chilbili village in his constituency when some villagers stopped his cavalcade and began protesting, shouting slogans in front of his SUV.
Singh remained seated in his vehicle while his bodyguard and companions tried to remove the protesters from the road.
A heated exchange and scuffle followed between the two sides. The villagers alleged that the MLA had failed to ensure any development during his tenure.
They claimed that basic facilities like tap water supply, roads, electricity, and sewerage systems remained in a deplorable state, and the MLA had done no work in five years.
As the protesters were pushed aside, the MLA's vehicle began moving forward. A youth tried to stop it but was allegedly pulled inside and later thrown out of the moving vehicle about 20 metres away.
He sustained injuries on his face and other parts of the body and started bleeding.
The injured youth, identified as Rahul Kumar, later lodged a complaint at the local police station, accusing the MLA, his security personnel, and supporters of abusing and assaulting him.
A video of the incident has also surfaced on social media.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar said a case under Sections 115(2), 118(1), 126(2), 351(3), 352, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the MLA and his supporters, Virendra Kumar Gupta and Virendra Yadav, based on the complaint filed by Rahul Kumar.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the MLA refuted the allegations, claiming that he had gone to Chilbili village to meet people when some BJP supporters belonging to the upper caste stopped his vehicle and began protesting.
"They misbehaved with my supporters, but there was no physical violence," Singh said....
