cages, camera traps set up to catch leopard
Haridwar, Aug. 28 -- The forest department has taken several measures in the wake of rising leopard menace and the recent death of a three-year old boy in Pauri Garhwal district, officials said.
"We have put up three iron cages and eight camera traps in the affected area with permission also granted for tranquillizing the leopard. From foot-prints identification of the leopard movement is being done and villagers are also being sensitised about safety measures," said Lansdowne forest division sub-divisional officer Rajat Kapil.
On August 23, a leopard pounced upon and dragged a 3-year old boy near Kotdwar-Pauri highway from their makeshift tent.
Later, the toddler's mutilated body was found about 100 metres away in a gorge nearly 26 hours after the incident by fellow labourers and the forest search team....
