Uttarkashi, Aug. 12 -- The annual Dayara Bugyal Butter Festival in Uttarkashi, originally scheduled for August 17, has been cancelled, with its associated religious rituals postponed to September in the wake of the devastating cloudburst and flash flood that struck Dharali village on August 5. The Bugyal is around 70 kms from Dharali. The decision was taken unanimously by villagers from Raithal and Barsu as an expression of solidarity with those affected by the disaster. Manoj Rana, president of the Dayara Butter Festival Tourism Committee, said all large-scale activities linked to the festival have been called off. The annual religious rituals have been deferred and will be conducted next month in a scaled-down manner. "Instead of the usual vibrant celebrations, only prayers to Lord Krishna and Radha will be held, along with offerings to local deities and fairies, subject to approval from the priest community on August 13," Rana said. The Dharali disaster, about 70 km from Dayara Bugyal, caused widespread destruction and loss of life, with 42 people still missing. The tragedy has cast a shadow over the entire Bhagirathi Valley....
