Brown sugar worth Rs.25-cr seized, 2 held; cop among gang members
PATNA, March 29 -- Bihar Police on Saturday seized 21 kg of brown sugar during a raid at two separate locations under Alamganj and Ramkrishna Nagar police station areas on Friday. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs.25 crore in the international market. Police also arrested two persons involved in the drug trafficking racket while one of the masterminds, identified as police constable Rishikesh, remains at large.
Police also seized two firearms, two magazines, two live cartridges, 12 cell phones, seven blank cheques, seven passbooks, three digital electronic weight machines and Rs.2.15 lakh cash from their possession. The two arrested members were identified as Jitendra Paswan of Samastipur and Nitish Kumar of Jehanabad. The gang members had hired a flat in Alamganj police station area and a room in Ramkrishna Nagar police station area to operate the syndicate, the police said.
Senior SP Kartikey K Sharma told media persons on Saturday evening that acting on a tip-off, a police team led by City SP (East) Parichay Kumar raided flat number 401 of Hope Royal Green Apartment on the eastern side of Gandhi Setu, seizing 1.681 kilograms of ready brown sugar and arresting two persons. During interrogation they revealed another location that the police raided: the house of Himanshu Prabhakar at Trikut Nagar in the Ramkrishna Nagar police station area. According to the police, 19.5 kg 500 high-quality drug raw materials were kept in a room to prepare brown sugar. Sharma stated that about 38 kg of brown sugar can be prepared from this raw material....
