Border mgmt, vibrant villages plans gain momentum in Bihar
PATNA, April 10 -- The state government has accelerated the border management plan along the Indo-Nepal border and also give impetus to the vibrant villages programme in bordering districts by removing illegal encroachments near the border points and also identifying remote villages near the border points to create better infrastructure and connectivity.
On Thursday, the DMs of several bordering districts shared their progress under the ongoing border management plan, security, and vibrant village programme with chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit in the state secretariat, as per a press statement.
The government release said that intensive drive is going on for past few months to remove illegal encroachments within the 15-km radius of 'no-man's land' and international border. In Madhubani, 186 such illegal encroachments were removed while in Kishanganj , 34 illegal encroachments were razed down, as part of the drive in last one month. In West Champaran, 261 illegal encroachments have been removed out of 272 identified illegal encroachments. " Coordination is being done with Nepal government authorities for the removal of remaining illegal encroachments," said the release.
More importantly, under the vibrant villages programme-11, large number of villages in border districts have been identified for creating new infrastructure and connectivity as part of the central government's objective to create livelihood opportunities, entrepreneurship skills development and promotion of tourism for better livelihood of the locals in such villages.
The release said the detailed project report for 253 development projects in 36 villages in Madhubani is being prepared apart from central government covering around 250 additional villages in the district. In Sitamarhi, a digital library and model agro farm in four blocks is being developed at a cost of Rs.24.66 crore. A sum of Rs.112.53 crore has been allocated for Kishanganj, which borders Nepal and is also close to Indo- Bangladesh border.
Significantly, several drives to detect fake currency from the border points have yielded good results. The DMs apprised the chief secretary(CS) that in East Champaran, 10 persons were arrested with fake currency of India and Nepal. In Sitamarhi, a sum of Rs.49 lakh Nepali fake currency and Rs.20,100 fake Indian currency were recovered from miscreants while gangs involved in making fake aadhaar cards and fake identity cards had been busted in Araria and Madhubani.
More importantly, the district authorities in border districts are also taking help of modern technology and joint surveys for maintenance and identification of border pillars . In East Champaran and Madhubani, 1,237 and 358 border pillars are being monitored while in Kishanganj and Sitamarhi, repair for damaged and missing border pillars are being done by the field survey team. In Supaul district, all damaged border pillars have been repaired, the DMs said.
"Strict monitoring is being done to identify illegal entry to India through foreign national from border points and many national from Uzbekistan, USA, China and Bangladesh have been arrested in past few months," the DMs informed during the presentation before the CS at the meeting, the release said....
