BLA flags 655 'duplicate' list entries in Darbhanga
DARBHANGA, Aug. 15 -- In a first-of-its-kind move in Bihar, a Booth Level Agent (BLA-1) in Darbhanga has formally objected to the presence of 655 "duplicate" entries in the draft voter list published after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that is underway before upcoming assembly polls in the state.
Laxman Kumar, BLA-1 of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Darbhanga Town Assembly constituency, has written to District Election Officer (DEO) Kaushal Kumar, submitting a detailed list of names that allegedly appear at two or more polling stations. He urged the administration to verify the entries and delete the duplicates, citing the Election Commission guidelines that allow a voter's name to appear only once in the electoral roll.
The copy of purported list, seen by the HT, includes several instances where the same voter is registered multiple times, sometimes even within the same booth. For example, a woman voter's name (Gupta Anjali Gupta) appears twice at booth number 112 (serial number 981) and booth number 114 (serial number 333).
Curiously, however, as per the purported list, the copy of which was seen by the HT, the name of Gupta Anjali Gupta has also been doubled up in BLA's list of 655 voters, at serial number 503 and 510 respectively.
Meanwhile, an overview of the list shows that except for a few names, almost all the names are from minority community.
Likewise, another, Imam Aashiya Paravin, is listed at booth number 191 (serial number 949) and booth number 129 (serial number 833).
In some cases, such as that of Babu Halima Khatun, the same individual is listed at multiple booths with varying ages.
When contacted, Kumar said the scrutiny was initially assigned to the BLA-2, and after identifying the discrepancies, he compiled and submitted the report to the DEO. "Now, it is for the district administration to verify and take necessary action," he told HT.
Despite repeated attempts, the DEO did not respond to calls for comment....
