BJP slams Cong over MP being carried on shoulders by flood victims
KATIHAR, Sept. 9 -- A video showing Katihar Congress MP Tariq Anwar being carried by flood victims on their shoulders in a flood-hit area has snowballed into a controversy, with the BJP slamming it as 'feudal mindset' of the party.
The MP was on a visit to the flood-hit areas under Manihari subdivision on Sunday when flood victims lifted him on the shoulders to carry him to their house to see their plight. "MP sahab was reluctant to visit the area already submerged and hence we lifted him on our shoulders so that he could encounter our condition," locals said, alleging, "Such visits are totally political."
However, the MP later resorting to X wrote, "People are facing severe difficulties due to the floods and river erosion going side by side and I stand by them and appeal to the government and administration to provide them adequate relief."
In a post on X, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla wrote, "Congress MP Tariq Anwar mocks flood relief - sits on shoulders of people while 'touring' flood affected areas."
Katihar BJP leaders too slammed the MP for riding piggybacks on flood-hit farmers. "The real character of the Congress leaders has surfaced yet again," senior BJP leader Chandra Bhushan Thakur alleged. He declared it 'feudal mindset' of the parties in INDIA bloc.
"Rahul Gandhi's interaction with makhana farmers by wading through knee-deep water in the field has been exposed and people have come to know the truth," Thakur told HT.
District Congress president Sunil Yadav. meanwhile. said, "MP sahab is unwell and hence people out of love lifted him on their shoulders."...
