BJP legislature party meet today; Maurya made central observer
PATNA, Nov. 19 -- The BJP on Tuesday appointed Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya as the central observer for the election of the legislature party leader in Bihar. Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and former Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti have been made co-observers.
An announcement to this effect was made by party national general secretary Arun Singh.
The BJP meeting to elect legislative party meeting would take place on Wednesday ahead of the legislative party meeting of the NDA. The JD(U) would also hold its legislative party meeting, the same day to elect its leader.
According to party leaders, Union home minister Amit Shah is expected to reach Patna on Wednesday evening itself to take part in swearing-in and sort out issues related to government formation.
"On Wednesday, the legislative party meeting of the BJP will be held, and after that, the legislative party meeting of the NDA will be convened. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on 20th November at the Gandhi Maidan. PM Modi, along with major BJP leaders, CMs, and Deputy CMs from various states, will participate in the swearing-in ceremony. We will take an oath to fulfil the dream of Viksit Bihar," said BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal.
The cabinet secretariat officials said that the swearing-in, in all likelihood would take place in the second half though the exact timing was yet to be decided. Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday evening visited Gandhi Maidan to oversee the preparations.
Hectic parleys on ministry formation continued in New Delhi on Tuesday as well with JD(U) national working president leaders Sanjay Jha and minister Lalan Singh holding meetin with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. BJP national president JP Nadda was also present at the closed-door meeting, which lasted about three hours.
The BJP leaders in Patna said that the meeting discussed the NDA's preparations for government formation in Bihar, including the allocation of ministerial portfolios to NDA constituents in the new government and the candidate for the Assembly Speaker's post.
Sources on Tuesday said efforts are on to evolve a consensus among NDA partners over the post of Assembly Speaker as both the BJP and the JD(U) are staking their claim to the post. NDA sources said that efforts are being made to find a solution through negotiations. The JD(U) wants that if the BJP takes the Speaker's post, then only one deputy chief minister should be appointed. The JD(U) does not want two deputy CMs in Bihar
In the outgoing Assembly, BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav served as Speaker, while JD(U)'s Narendra Narayan Yadav held the position of Deputy Speaker.
The process of formation of the new NDA government in Bihar began on Monday after CM Nitish Kumar met Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and recommended the dissolution of the outgoing Assembly with effect from November 19.
Kumar will again meet the governor on Wednesday and tender his resignation along with a letter of support from all other constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)....
