Dehradun, Nov. 19 -- The Congress on Tuesday targeted the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government after Divye Pratap, son of BJP leader and former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh 'Champion', was booked for allegedly assaulting R Yashouardhan, the son of former chief secretary S Ramaswamy, in a road rage incident on November 14. State Congress chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni said, "This is the arrogance of power. The kind of misconduct that took place is deeply shameful for me as an Uttarakhandi. This state is known as Devbhoomi and its people are regarded as simple and innocent across the world. But the kind of crimes happening here today make it seem as if we have surpassed Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Those who are in power are openly committing crimes." "The BJP claims they have taken action....that he has been suspended and an FIR registered.... but they must look within their organisation. Their state president Mahendra Bhatt is busy spewing venom, and the chief minister keeps repeating his agenda on 'jihad'. They are not paying attention to their organisation while their leaders remain involved in crimes against women, recruitment scams, and other wrongdoing," she added. "The manner in which the former MLA's son is displaying his arrogance is shocking. Forget the common people....here, even the son of a former chief secretary is assaulted, and a gun is pointed at his driver. This raises serious questions about the state of law and order, and shows that criminals have no fear of the system," she further added. In January, BJP MLA from Khanpur (Haridwar) Kunwar Pranav Singh 'Champion' was arrested for allegedly firing over 50 rounds at the residence of incumbent Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar in Roorkee. He was granted bail in March. Prior to the January incident, Champion and Kumar had been engaged in a war of words on social media. BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said, "Whoever commits wrongdoing or takes the law into their own hands is not spared under BJP rule. Whatever legal action is required will be taken. In our government, no one is subjected to any kind of pressure." On Monday, the Dehradun Police said it has added section 30 (Punishment for contravention of licence or rule) of the Arms Act to the FIR against accused Divye Pratap. The police also added sections 126 (Wrongful restraint) and 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the FIR registered earlier at the Rajpur police station on November 15, a day after the incident. Meanwhile, Dehradun police has written to Haridwar DM for the cancellation of ex-legislator's son's arms licence. In his complaint, R Yashouardhan categorically stated that while travelling from Dilaram to Sai Mandir on Friday evening, a vehicle began following and trying to overtake his car. At the Mussoorie diversion, a white Land Cruiser (UK 07 DN 0001) and a supporting Bolero intercepted his car. The occupants, including a tall man in a red sweatshirt carrying sticks, assaulted him along with a constable. He alleged that he was dragged out, beaten with sticks, and his phone snatched. The man in the sweatshirt also pressed a pistol against his driver's ribs and issued threats, he alleged. SSP Ajai Singh said, "Our investigation revealed the car occupants as Divye Pratap Singh and constable Rajesh Singh, posted in Haridwar district. We sent a letter to Haridwar police for disciplinary action against the police constable. Acting on this, the constable was suspended, and the Bolero seized."...
