PATNA, July 8 -- Bihar police have picked up 12 suspects in connection with the murder of industrialist Gopal Khemka for interrogation, Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said on Monday. Even though, according to police, no major breakthrough was achieved in the case till late on Monday. The police, according to DGP, have also recovered from the Beur Jail in Patana and they are suspected to have been used by the plotters of the killing. Meanwhile, the pressure on the police is mounting because the state government is pushing state police to solve the case in order to avoid public backlash and the Opposition is targeting the government for deteriorating law and order. The brazen murder of an ace businessman in the heart of capital Patna has thus become a challenge for the police. DGP Kumar said that the police would soon crack the case. "The investigation is going on from all possible angles. The mobiles recovered from the Beur Jail in Patna during raid and they are being examined and we hope to get some clues to catch the culprits soon," he added. So far, there has been no breakthrough in the case, but interrogation continues, and raids are being conducted at suspected places throughout the state, police officers connected with the investigation said. Earlier, Bihar government came out with an assurance that all such issues will be looked into and addressed after multiple businessmen in the state have flagged security concerns in the aftermath of Khemka's murder. Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, whom a delegation of Bihar Industries Association (BIA) met a day earlier, said security would be given to the business community as per norms. "A delegation met me. I have assured them of appropriate security as per norms. Some of them have also asked for arms licences, which, in any case, are given to businessmen," Meena told reporters. The murder of Khemka who had lost his elder son Gunjan Khemka in a similar murder in 2018 has deeply perturbed the businessmen community. "The incident is a matter of serious concern. This has certainly put a question mark on the law and order situation in the state. A BIA delegation led by me met the CS and Bihar DGP and discussed the security concerns of businessmen and industrialists at length. The CS and DGP have assured us that our concerns will be looked into and it will be addressed on a priority basis," said BIA President KPS Keshri. Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) Vice-President Ashish Shankar said, "It's shocking. It reminds us of the Jungle Raj days. The BCCI and BIA will soon sit together and chalk out a detailed plan concerning security aspects of businessmen and industrialists, which will be discussed with the authorities concerned in the government," he added. Industrialist Ajay Singh claimed he had also received threats from criminals and brought the matter to the notice of the CM and home department, but nothing happened in the case. "There is no redressal system for such complaints. We used to hear about Jungle Raj. But apparently, the current situation is not different. The government and the authorities concerned must take appropriate steps to improve the situation," Singh added. Meanwhile, the fear-stricken family of late Gopal Khemka that has sought police protection, questioned how could criminals operate with such tenacity in a prominent locality. Suresh Chandra, brother of the slain businessman, said it was strange that criminals were reportedly operating even behind the bars. "...I wonder how the mobiles reach them and who facilitates such an arrangement? It beats the very purpose of a jail. With all facilities available to jail inmates, it means they enjoy protection at the cost of public money," he added....
