Bihar-UP STF seize ganja worth Rs.2 cr, arrest 3
PATNA, Oct. 16 -- A joint team of the Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested three persons for allegedly transporting 700 kg ganja in a truck in Gaya district, officials said.
The seized ganja is estimated to be worth over Rs.2 crore in the international market.
Arrested accused were identified as Vikash Yadav of Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh and Sanjeev Tiwary and Dhiraj Kumar Gupta (both from Rohtas, Bihar). They were transporting the contraband from Sambalpur in Odisha towards the Grand Trunk (GT) Road via Barachatti in Gaya. Dhiraj and Sanjeev were piloting the truck and alerting the driver about police presence along the route.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF intercepted the Jharkhand-registered truck near the north flank of GT Road under Barachatti police station and seized the consignment. The police also recovered a car, six mobile phones, and two driving licences from the accused.
Earlier, the UP STF had received inputs that narcotics were being trafficked from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh via GT Road to northern India and other parts of the country. "The STF unit in Varanasi shared information that a consignment concealed in a truck from Jharkhand was to be unloaded at Dehri-on-Sone (Rohtas). Bihar STF intercepted the truck on GT Road," an official said....
