Bihar polls: Arms licenses, History sheeters social media under scan
PATNA, June 22 -- The state administration has firmly geared up for the upcoming state assembly polls with all DMs, SPs having been instructed to start fast disposal of pending warrants against criminal history sheeters, checking of arms licenses, verification of used bullets and monitoring of social media posts.
The directives have been issued jointly by chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena, DGP, Bihar Vinay Kumar, chief electoral officer, Bihar, Vinod Singh Gunjiyal and additional chief secretary, home, Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, during a review meeting held on Thursday to assess the poll preparedness in districts falling in the Magadh division.
"There will be a visit of Election Commission of India (ECI) team in coming days to Bihar to review poll preparedness. All poll-related preparations should be completed on a mission mode before the ECI team visit," the chief secretary told the DMs during the meeting. The DM and SPs of Arwal, Nawada, Aurangabad, Jehanabad and Gayaji gave a presentation of the poll preparedness.
The ACS, home, DGP, Bihar and CEO, Bihar were specific that all police stations should now dispose of the pending warrants against history sheeters with focus on completing the investigations into poll-related offences and arms act. The DGP, Bihar, said that action should be taken against those possessing illegal arms and also seized liquor should be destroyed on a priority basis.
The CEO, Bihar, Gunjiyal, also laid emphasis that officials should ensure that the number of voters in each polling station should be capped at 1,200 voters as per guidelines of the ECI and there should be a proper transportation plan and availability of vehicles in the districts.
"There would be no shifting of booths in normal circumstances and, if required, additional booths should be set up in the designated polling stations," the CEO instructed officials, as per a press statement....
