Bihar likely to see major infra push ahead of state polls
PATNA, May 24 -- The Mandiri road project, the double decker flyover on Ashok Rajpath, the Mithapur-Mehuli and portion of the Tajpur-Bakhtiarpur four lane bridge are some of the major infrastructure projects expected to be inaugurated in June and July this year by the state government, a move seen as a pre-poll inauguration spree ahead of the state assembly polls scheduled in October -November.
Road construction department ( RCD) Nitin Nabin said that many major infrastructure projects in Patna and adjoining districts were in completion stage and would be inaugurated in June and July. " It is our target to inaugurate many projects in next couple of months. Work is progressing fast and we are confident the projects would be completed for operationalisation soon," he said.
In the state capital, the Mandiri road over the drain being constructed for last several years at a cost of around Rs.86.9 crore is likely to be inaugurated by July 15 with work of putting the drain slabs going on at fast pace while the RCC road is expected to be completed by June 15.
"The RCC road and other drain slabs of the Mandiri road is expected to be completed by June mid following which there would be some minor work required. We are going to make it operational tentatively by July 15," the RCD minister said. The Mandiri road project is expected to ease up traffic in central Patna and help commuters to travel to Gandhi Maidan and Ashok Rajpath more easily and take off the traffic load on Dak Bungalow road.
The link road connecting the Mandiri road with the J P Ganga path , a project of Rs.54 crore, is also expected to be inaugurated in next two months, sources said. The link road would also help commuters to reach the Ganga path
Another project to be inaugurated in June this year is the double decker flyover on Ashok Rajpath, which is coming up at a cost of around Rs.422 crore. " The flyover would be inaugurated by chief minister Nitish Kumar around June 5 tentatively. The construction work of the flyover is nearing completion," said the RCD minister.
The flyover - has two flanks , one from Gandhi Maidan to Science College ( going to eastwards) and second from Patna College to B N College( those going westwards). The flyover would also be linked to the J P Ganga path from Krishna ghat. The flyover once operational would help decongestion on the Ashok Rajpath and help commuters travelling to Mahendru and eastern part of the state capital more faster and also reach Gandhi Maidan from Patna City areas.
Interestingly, the mega bridge projects like the Mithapur-Mahuli flyover, a 9 km stretch, is also near completion with the state government expected to inaugurate the project sometime around June 15 to June 20, sources said. The elevated road would help commuters to reach southern Patna areas faster and also travel to Gaya quickly . The project cost is around Rs.668 crore.
Similarly, another mega project, Bakhtiarpur- Tajpur four lane bridge over Ganga- which would provide an alternative route for travelling from southern parts to north Bihar in coming days - is also going on at a fast pace.
The 5.57 km bridge ,estimated to cost around Rs. 3,000 crore, is likely to see inauguration of one portion by July 15, said the RCD minister. Work on another mega project , Kachi Dargah -Bidupur six lane bridge over Ganga is also going on with RCD keen on inaugurating a portion of the bridge till Raghopur by June 15. "We will inaugurate one portion of the bridge till Raghopur by mid-June," said the RCD minister, Nabin. The project cost is Rs.4,988 crore.
Besides, work on few new road projects over drains in west Patna like the road over Anandpuri drain connecting from Baba chowk to Rajapur pul as well as 4.26 km road over Kurji drain would begin from June onwards, sources said....
