Bihar bahubalis pass batons to kin, dynasty appeals to all parties
PATNA, Nov. 2 -- Most of the Bahubalis or strongmen in Bihar are passing the baton to their next generations. Dynasts of musclemen could be seen across the spectrum of political parties in the state. Bahubalis shift parties with assurance of poll tickets and thus their kin could be seen adorning symbols of almost all leading parties.
All parties from the BJP, JD(U), RJD to the Congress have no qualm fielding scions of strongmen if they have a quantum of winnability.
Among leading names of Bihar's gangsters, former MP Surajbhan Singh, Munna Shukla and Nagendra Kumar alias Bogo Singh are in the RJD, while the likes of Anant Singh, Anand Mohan Singh and Rajballabh Yadav are on the JD(U)'s side. Most of them have pushed their kin into the political arena.
While Surajbhan and Raj Ballabh have fielded their wives, Munna Shukla's daughter and Anand Mohan Singh's son are in fray. Anant Singh and Bogo Singh are themselves in fray.
It is to be noted that Bogo Singh moved to the RJD just ahead of the election to secure a guarantee of a ticket. Similarly, Suraj Bhan Singh was in the RLJP of Pashupati Kumar Paras, but he shifted to RJD and got the ticket for his wife from Mokama. On the other hand, sons of seasoned politicians like Vashishtha Narain Singh (JD-U), Ashwini Choubey (BJP), Akhilesh Singh (Congress), late Sharad Yadav and several others could not make it. Late BP Mandal's grandson Nikhil Mandal (JD-U) also did not find favour from any political party.
But for Bahubali candidates like RJD's Ritlal Yadav from Danapur, Karnveer Singh Yadav alias Lallu Mukhia from Barh, Bogo Singh from Matihani, CPI (M) candidate Shyam Bharti from Hayaghat, Osama Shahab (son of late Mohammad Shahabuddin) from Raghunathpur, Bima Bharti (wife of criminal Awadhesh Mandal) from Rupauli, Anita Mahto (wife of dreaded gangster Ashok Mahto) from Warisaliganj, there was no trouble and they all in fray from different parties.
In JD(U) also, Amrendra Kumar Pandey from Kuchaikot, Radhacharan Seth from Sandesh, Manoranjan Singh alias Dhumal Singh from Ekma, Shankar Singh from Rupauli and Anant Singh from Mokama, Manorma Devi (wife of slain gangster Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav alias Bindi Yadav) from Belaganj are in the electoral fray. BJP candidate Vishal Prashant (son of criminal turned politician Narendra Kumar alias Sunil Pandey) from Tarari, while Kedarnath Singh (brother of jailed gangster Prabhunath Singh) has been fielded from Baniyapur and Aruna Devi (wife of gangster Akhilesh Singh) from Warisaliganj.
LJP also has a good number of such candidates: Hulas Pandey (brother of Narendra Kumar alias Sunil Pandey) from Brahmpur, Raju Tiwary (brother of gangster Rajan Tiwary) from Gobindaganj, Rupa Kumari (wife of criminal Tun Tun Yadav) from Fatuha.
"Criminalisation of politics is a reality despite a debate about its eradication. All the parties have such candidates and they also win election after election. They go into politics to get some legitimacy in the society and parties use their Robinhood image for their own advantage," said social analyst Prof BK Choudhary....
