PATNA, July 15 -- In a joint operation conducted by Special Task Force (STF) and Purnea police, an arms dealer was arrested in Purnea district with a foreign-made Beretta pistol, 440 rounds including 9mm, 8mm, .32 bore, 6.35 bore, 7.62 bore and rotating bolt of AK-47 assault rifle on Monday, police said. Accused Kunal Kumar of K Haat police station was said to be a habitual offender. He had over five Arms Act related cases registered with Munger, Purnea and Patna police. During interrogation, he confessed that he had purchased the pistol (German made) from an international smuggling gang at Dimapur, which might have smuggled it from Myanmar, police added. "Investigations are on to ascertain the identity of the person to whom the pistol and ammunition were to be supplied. The arrested person has a criminal past. The police will take him on remand. An investigation is ongoing to determine from where they procured the weapons and what they wanted to do with it," said ADG (Operations) Kundan Krishnan.
