Bihar: 4 cyber criminals arrested on for issuing fake ration cards
BETTIAH, May 27 -- Bihar's Paharpur police arrested four cyber criminals, claiming to have busted a gang who would issue fake ration cards after allegedly hacking state's Ration Card Management System (RCMS) portal in East Champaran, officials said on Sunday late evening.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Arun Kumar, sub divisional magistrate (SDM) of Areraj said, "Prima facie, it appears that this malpractice was ongoing for past few months and there are no less than 100 fake card holders who have been identified. They too look to have procured ration from PDS fraudulently."
The official further said his team had hunch of some malpractices.
"But, we grew suspicious after around 40 cards were found to be generated between 8pm and 11pm on May 20 with a speed of issuance quite quicker than the one generated by our staff. The timing of the issuance these cards fuelled suspicion and finally cyber experts unearthed the crime," he added.
Further investigation into the matter was underway, he further said.
Police said all the four cyber criminals were arrested from Laghuniya and Dudhiyawa villages under Paharpur police station of the state's East Champaran district on Sunday.
"During the simultaneous raids carried out, the police team stumbled upon laptops, biometric machines and fake documents from the two cybercafes," said police.
Police said as part of their modus operandi, these cyber criminals would bypass the Bihar government's RCMS portal and manipulating the information, they would issue the fake ration cards.
Those arrested have been identified as Rehan Saifi, Suraj Kumar and Vicky Kumar - residents of Paharpur. However, one of the four Neeraj Kumar hails from Malahi in East Champaran district....
