PATNA, Sept. 5 -- A 22-year-old woman was arrested by Patna police from Sonepur area under the same police station in Saran district on charges of duping a Bhojpuri singer of Rs.33 lakh on the pretext of marriage. Police said 22-year-old Kajal alias Mahima, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody after Bhojpuri singer Deepak Kumar, a native of Saran currently living in Patna's Anisabad area, lodged a case at Beur police station alleging fraud. According to the complaint, Deepak met Mahima on May 1, 2023, when he was looking for a female actress for a Bhojpuri song. He paid Rs.15,000 into her manager's account for a meeting. "During this period, we came close and began living as a couple, when she proposed marriage and I agreed," Deepak told police. Later, Mahima's sister Tanisha and their parents, Raju and Usha Devi, visited his flat, where Mahima introduced him as her fiance. "Her family insisted that we shift to Delhi for a better life. They also claimed they were buying a plot of land but had a shortage of money. Mahima said she had already paid an advance and asked me to help with the rest. However, when I inquired locally about the land, people told me it belonged to someone else and was not for sale. When I demanded my money back, she threatened to implicate me in a false case," Deepak alleged. Police said Mahima and her family swindled Rs.33 lakh from the singer. She has been arrested, while raids are on to nab her family members....
