SASARAM, June 19 -- Vigilance sleuths from Patna on Wednesday arrested a Block Education Officer (BEO) and his accountant red-handed while they were accepting bribes from a middle school teacher in Bikramganj, Rohtas district, officials said. The trap was laid by a vigilance team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shyam Babu Prasad. Bikramganj BEO Sudhir Kumar Sharma was caught accepting Rs.7,600, while his accountant, Subhash Kumar, was caught taking Rs.7,000 in cash from Vidya Bhushan, a teacher at Adarsh Madhya Vidyalaya, Gotpa. According to officials, the teacher had earlier lodged a complaint with the vigilance department, alleging that the two were demanding Rs.20,000 in exchange for processing payment of arrears and updating his Service Book. After the complaint was verified and found to be genuine, a team was constituted to nab the accused. This is the fourth instance in a month where government officials have been arrested on graft charges in Rohtas district. "People are grateful to the vigilance team, but we demand more such action against corrupt officials," said social activist Dadan Pandey....
