Bengaluru-based cyber crook nabbed in Bihar's Raxaul
BETTIAH, April 30 -- A team of Bengaluru police took custody of a cyber criminal who had been on the run for several years and was apprehended in Raxaul in East Champaran district while attempting to flee to Thailand via Nepal, police said on Monday evening.
Police further said that the arrested individual, Mohammed Hafid, a resident of Kozhikode, Kerala, was wanted in a cyber crime case (Case No. 100/22) registered at the Cyber Police Station in Bengaluru, involving a fraud of over Rs.4.84 crore.
"He was hiding in countries like Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Nepal. On Monday, he had come to the immigration office to get his no objection certificate (NOC). His plan was to escape to Thailand via Nepal. But during the scanning of the passport, the Lookout circular on his passport came to light," said Kisan Kumar Paswan, station house officer (SHO), Haraiya police station.
Earlier, Haraiya police had approached the Bangalore police after claiming Hafid's custody from immigration department. Hafid is accused of orchestrating a sophisticated cyber fraud and money laundering operation involving crores of rupees. He faces charges under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act for theft of identity....
