Beheaded bodies of a couple found in Bihar's Rohtas dist
SASARAM, July 13 -- Decomposed and beheaded bodies of a man and a woman were found near Baghaut Baba Sthan, above Ugahani Ghat, along the climb to the ancient Gupteshwar Mahadev cave temple in the Kaimur Hills forest under Chenari police station area of Rohtas district on Friday evening, police said.
According to police, the man was wearing pants, a shirt, and shoes, while the woman was dressed in a sari. Both appeared to be around 30 years of age. Investigators suspect the murders took place about 10 days ago. The heads had been severed from the torsos, and the bodies were in an advanced stage of decomposition, with insect activity making identification difficult.
A mobile phone was also recovered from the spot, though it had been damaged by rain. Police suspect that the man and woman were murdered elsewhere and their bodies dumped in the forest.
During the Sawan month, the route sees a heavy footfall of devotees visiting the famous cave temple. It was some local shopkeepers, who had gone into the forest to collect wood for setting up their stalls, who noticed the bodies lying about 500 metres from the road. They immediately informed residents of the nearby hill village, who then alerted Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar.
The bodies were brought to Sadar Hospital in Sasaram for post-mortem, but doctors stated that due to the advanced state of decomposition, a post-mortem could not be conducted at the district hospital.
SP Raushan Kumar said that samples from the bodies are being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Patna for DNA and other tests.
Efforts are also underway to retrieve data and call records from the recovered mobile phone with the help of technical experts, which may offer crucial clues regarding the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of their murder....
