BDO suspended for airing his grievances on social media in Katihar
KATIHAR, July 17 -- The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Barsoi in Bihar's Katihar district, who had taken to social media to allege harassment by his immediate senior during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and posted his resignation letter, was suspended on Monday. The suspension was confirmed in a press release issued late Tuesday.
According to the release, the BDO was found guilty of spreading "misleading propaganda" regarding the ongoing SIR. This marks the first instance in Bihar where a BDO, who is also serving as an Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), has been suspended during the SIR process.
"BDO Hari Om Sharan has been suspended after his reply to the show-cause notice was found unsatisfactory," said a press note issued by the office of District Magistrate (DM) Manesh Kumar Meena on Monday. "The BDO will face departmental action for airing his grievances on social media," the note added.
The BDO had posted his resignation letter addressed to the DM on social media, in which he levelled serious allegations against Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Dixit Shwetam.
However, the SDO denied the allegations and instead accused the BDO of negligence in carrying out SIR-related duties.
The DM clarified that no formal resignation letter had been received and that the BDO had resumed duty after issuing an apology.
"Action has been taken for conduct unbecoming of a public servant," the release stated.
In his social media post, the BDO, who is also functioning as the AERO, alleged mental harassment by the SDO, claiming he was publicly humiliated on various pretexts. "I am a human being first, and an officer later," he had said. He also mentioned suffering from a physical ailment but asserted that it had never interfered with his official responsibilities.
The suspension of a BDO-cum-AERO during the ongoing SIR has raised concerns about confusion and disarray in the execution of the revision process ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar....
