BANKA, July 30 -- In a shocking incident from Bihar's Banka district, four Class X students have been held for allegedly committing cyber fraud targeting their own headmaster. The headmaster, who initially fell prey to the students-turned-cyber cons, sensed foul play just in time and managed to narrowly escape being cheated. He lodged a complaint with the cyber police, who arrested four members of the racket. A hunt is on for other members of the same group. Superintendent of Police (SP) Upendranath Verma confirmed that the minors, posing as the District Education Officer (DEO), called the headmaster of Middle School Lausa (under Amarpur police station limits) and tricked him into sharing a One-Time Password (OTP), which gave them unauthorised access to the E-Shikshakosh portal. Within minutes, the headmaster, Sanjiv Kumar Tiwari, grew suspicious and contacted the actual DEO, who denied making any such call. Alarmed, Tiwari immediately alerted his bank and requested them to block any transactions, effectively preventing a potential financial loss. "It was God's grace that the money is safe," said the relieved headmaster. "A little delay would have been disastrous." He later lodged a complaint with the cyber police, prompting a swift investigation. A team led by Cyber Cell Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anupesh Narayan acted promptly and arrested four suspects from Nalanda district. "The arrested persons are minors and Class X students," said DSP Narayan. The police also recovered five mobile phones and ten SIM cards from their possession. During interrogation, the students confessed to their involvement and provided key leads regarding a larger racket. DSP Narayan said, "It appears there is an organised gang actively recruiting minors by luring them with money and false promises of a better future." He added that based on the clues shared by the arrested students, police are working to identify and apprehend other members of the network....
