babulal soren promises ST tag to kumhars; bjp says he meant SC
Jamshedpur, Nov. 7 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jharkhand president and leader of the opposition (LoP) Babulal Marandi on Thursday clarified that the party candidate for Ghatshila by-poll Babulal Soren had intended to say 'Anushucit Jaati' but due to slip of tounge it came out as 'Anushucit Jan Jaati', to put an end to the controversy triggered by Soren's alleged promise of tribal status to the Kumhar community on Wednesday, people aware of the matter said on Thursday.
"Babulal Soren intended to say 'Anushucit Jaati' but it came out as 'Anushucit Jan Jaati' due to slip of tounge. It happens all the time with everyone. Don't we sometimes pronounce bachpan while intending to say pachpan or chhappan. Besides, the Kumhar community themselves have today clarified that they have been demanding SC status for years and Babulal Soren promised to support them if elected MLA," Babulal Marandi told a press conference in Ghatshila on Thursday.
Babulal Soren himself released a video on Thursday clarifying that he stood by his stand of supporting the SC community in their long-standing demand for SC status.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhandi Kumhar Ekta Manch (JKEM) said in a press conference on Thursday that they had submitted a memorandum to BJP candidate Babulal Soren, requesting him to support their demand for SC status.
"We had submitted our memorandum to Babulal Soren on Wednesday requesting him to support our long-standing demand for SC status. Babulal Soren also had announced his support for our demand from an open forum and promised that he would raise it in the state assembly if elected. But the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) spokesperson tried to twist it to manufacture a controversy," JKEM state president Ramesh Majhi, told a press conference on Thursday.
"This spokesperson doesn't even know that our samaj has been demanding and fighting for SC status for decades. Moreover, he also doesn't know that the Kumhar community fulfills all the criteria and conditions for SC (Scheduled Caste) status and has been included in the SC list in Uttar Pradesh and many other states. We feel this rumour was spread by the rival party to mislead people and spark tension between two communities and disturb social harmony. We will submit a detailed charter of demands in this regard to the Governor shortly," added Majhi.
Earlier, JMM spokesperson Kunal Sarangi had hit back at Babulal Soren and the BJP for Soren's alleged statement of support for ST status to the Kumhar community in a JKEM event in Ghatshila on Wednesday.
"How can Babulal Soren promise ST status to any community? There's an established constitutional and legislative process for including communities in the scheduled tribes (ST) list. This is a grossly irresponsible statement by a politician who aspires to be an MLA. This could also trigger tension between two communities and the social harmony may be disturbed. If any untoward incident happens in the wake of this statement, the BJP candidate and the party will solely be responsible for that," Sarangi had told a press conference earlier.
Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren, on the other hand, attacked JMM and incumbent Hemant Soren government for stalling the process to constitute the Jharkhand State Maati Kala Board.
"During my term as CM, I had initiated the process to form the Jharkhand State Maati Kala Board (JSMKB) but the incumbent Hemant Soren government has stalled it," Champai had said in the same event on Wednesday.
State land and revenue and transport minister Deepak Birua, however, promised the JKEM to form the JSMKB after the Ghatshila by-poll in the same event later....
