JAIPUR/JODHPUR, Dec. 20 -- The Rajasthan high court has directed the Election Commission of India to not use college and university campuses for general elections as far as possible. The order aims to prevent disruption caused by turning academic institutions into polling booths. Justice Sameer Jain said that while elections are a constitutional necessity, they should not come at the disproportionate cost of academic disruption. "The Election Commission of India shall, in advance, evolve and adopt alternate arrangements for the conduct of elections, including but not limited to the use of community halls, government offices, or other public infrastructure, so that institutions of higher education remain insulated from avoidable academic disruption."
