AURANGABAD, July 10 -- An excise assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and his driver were injured and their vehicle damaged by an angry mob near Dhobani village at Sanda on Jharkhand border under Kutumba police station of Aurangabad district, late on Tuesday night, police said. ASI Krishnanandan Kumar had gone to arrest some drunkards from the spot. The miscreants assaulted him and his driver Sumant Kumar and freed the three arrested drunkards. Later reinforcement from excise police reached and rescued the ASI and the driver. They were taken to the local community health centre where doctors referred them to sadar hospital at Aurangabad, police said. The injured excise officials were deputed at Pichhulia check-post and had arrested the three drunkards who entered the state after consuming liquor in Jharkhand. If local sources are to be believed, the excise officials had struck a deal for releasing the drunkards and had called their relatives near Dhobani with money. The place is eight kilometres from the check post. The relatives and their supporters came and started pelting stones on the excise team and assaulted them after some dispute over the amount. Aurangabad SDPO Sanjay Kumar Pandey said a case against six named and unidentified mob had been registered on the application of injured ASI and police were investigating from all possible angles. The excise official's behaviour was suspicious as they did not call police on 112 or informed them about the incident before filing written application,Pandey said....
