PATNA, Jan. 8 -- The Special Task Force (STF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in a joint operation, recovered firearms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from Aurangabad district on Tuesday evening, officials said. The recovery was made from the Dudhajada hills under the jurisdiction of Madanpur police station. No arrests have been made in connection with the recovery so far. An STF officer said security forces recovered firearms and explosives hidden beneath rocks by Naxalites during a search operation. The seized items included one single-barrel gun, one country-made pistol, one live cartridge and two IED cane bombs. An FIR has been registered at Madanpur police station and further investigation is underway, he said. The CRPF bomb detection and disposal squad safely handled the explosives, following all prescribed safety protocols, officials said. In another development, two inter-state heroin smugglers were arrested on Wednesday in a joint operation by a special team of the Bihar STF and Purnia police from the Kasba police station area of Purnia district. The arrested accused were identified as Arun Nehru Dharmesh, a resident of Purnia, and Anjali Devi of Vaishali district. Police seized 100 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs.25 lakh in the international market, besides four mobile phones and Rs.5,500 in cash, an STF officer said. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they procured heroin from a supplier in Agartala, Tripura, to smuggle and sell it in Bihar. The officer said both were involved in the narcotics trade for a long time and operated an organised gang engaged in the illegal purchase, sale and smuggling of heroin, with a network spread across Bihar, Assam and neighbouring states....
