ASI injured in 'knife attack' in Darbhanga
DARBHANGA, July 7 -- Tension gripped Khajasarai locality under Laheriasarai police station in Darbhanga on Saturday evening after an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was allegedly stabbed during a Muharram procession.
According to police, ASI Amit Kumar sustained a stab injury in his left thigh following a scuffle with some participants of the procession, reportedly agitated over the placement of barricades on the road. During the altercation, the ASI was allegedly thrown to the ground by the group. One of the accused, identified as Mohd Rabbani, then allegedly stabbed him.
Despite being injured, ASI Amit Kumar managed to apprehend the accused with fellow officers. He was later rushed to the hospital for treatment. Following the incident, police arrested Mohammad Rabbani.
However, the arrest of the accused sparked outrage and an angry crowd blocked the Darbhanga-Baheri road at Pandasarai and resorted to stone-pelting at the police. The administration later cleared the road after considerable efforts.
When contacted, Laheriasarai police station in-charge Amit Kumar declined to comment on the incident. Meanwhile, an officer from the Darbhanga police, assigned by SS), downplayed the episode, claiming that the ASI was not stabbed but sustained an injury from bamboo used in the barricading.
