Army jawan killed on Op Sindoor duty cremated in village at Siwan
PATNA, May 15 -- The mortal remains of an Army jawan, a soldier of Indian Army's 16 Corps (White Knight Corps), Ram Babu Kumar Singh, who died in the line of duty during the conflict between India and Pakistan, was consigned to flames at his native Vasilpur village with full military honours in Siwan district on Wednesday.
He lost his life in a road accident while he was posted at Nagrota Military Station during the Operation Sindoor.
Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition (LoP) and RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav paid tributes to the late Singh at Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport, Patna. "I hope that the Chief Minister provides financial assistance worth Rs.50 lakh announced (for the kin of the deceased jawan). I will also write a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to award the title of martyr to those who were killed serving the country, to those enrolled in BSF, Military, CISF, or CRPF," Yadav said.
On Wednesday, Bihar government clarified that Ram Babu Singh, a resident of Siwan who died while on duty in Jammu and Kashmir, was an Army soldier and not with the BSF and that his death is not considered a "battle casualty". A senior official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, "We received a letter last night from the Army whereby we were informed that Ram Babu Singh was with the Army. Also, his death cannot be called 'battle casualty' as he died in a road accident".
Earlier Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced financial assistance worth Rs.50 lakh for the kin of the jawan killed in action. Kumar posted on X, "Salute to BSF Jawan Ram Babu Singh, a resident of Vasilpur village of Gautam Buddh Nagar police station area of Siwan district of Bihar, who was martyred in firing by Pakistani Army on Jammu-Kashmir border. The country will always remember his martyrdom. I am deeply saddened by this incident. On the martyrdom of the brave son, we pray to God to give strength to his family to bear the pain in this hour of grief. The nearest dependent of martyr soldier Rambabu Singh ji will be given an honorarium of Rs.50 lakh by the state government. Also, the last rites of martyr soldier Rambabu Singh will be performed with police honours by the state government."
Since Babu died in a road accident, there was some haze whether he would be entitled to "honour" extended to a fallen soldier in the battle.
A senior army officer cleared the air while taking to HT that any personnel killed during any army operation would be entitled to all the privileges as per norms, irrespective of the nature of death. "Ram Babu Kumar Singh was posted with Army Aviation and thus was also a part of the Operation Sindoor. As per norms, Army announces his death as Battle Casualty and he is entitled to Guard of Honour," he added....
