Arif visits bn college, slams apathy after bomb blast case
PATNA, May 18 -- In an unprecedented move, Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday paid a surprise visit to BN College to personally assess the situation following a bomb blast on the campus and the alleged apathy shown towards a seriously injured student, who later died after being shifted from one hospital to another.
"Had I been convinced that the information I was being given was true, I would not have gone to the college. I wanted to see it for myself. Whatever happened is unacceptable. The university cannot function amid indiscipline," the Governor said earlier at a Bihar Industries Association (BIA) event before heading to the college.
At the college, he spent nearly one and a half hours inspecting the campus and hostel premises. He also summoned both the students' union and the college administration to the Raj Bhawan with detailed reports on the incident.
While Patna University has witnessed several violent incidents in the past, this is the first time that a sitting Governor - who also serves as Chancellor of state universities - has visited a campus in the immediate aftermath of such an event. His visit came amid student protests and slogans demanding the resignation of the college principal.
"I'm not the kind of person to sit in the Raj Bhawan and issue directions from there. If there is a problem, it's my responsibility to be present," Khan said....
