PURNIA, June 24 -- Police in Bihar's Purnia on Monday launched a four-day anti-drug awareness campaign, 'Operation Prahar', involving students, doctors, and police personnel to curb the rampant drug abuse, particularly among youngsters and children. Aimed at sensitising people to the dangers of drug addiction, the initiative seeks to make Purnia a 'drug-free' district. Superintendent of Police (SP) Sweety Sahrawat, who recently took charge of the district, is leading the campaign and emphasised the need to dismantle drug syndicates. She said the campaign would formally conclude on June 26 - International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking - but the drive would continue beyond that. "We want our citizens to become anti-drug warriors and work hand-in-hand with the police in this fight against the drug menace," SP Sahrawat said. "Police will reach out to schools, colleges, hamlets, and rural areas to interact with people and give further momentum to the campaign. The special drive will continue to bring drug peddlers, smugglers, and addicts to book," she added.
