PATNA, Oct. 9 -- A joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and Siwan police on Wednesday recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 assault rifle, and arrested three associates of jailed LJP (Ram Vilas) leader-cum-gangster Raees Khan, officials said. This is the second raid in 20 days at Gyaspur village in Siwan district. Police seized the AK-47 from the house of Abdul Kalam Azad Ansari, along with two magazines, a country-made carbine with magazines, a DBBL rifle, a country-made pistol, 143 live AK-47 cartridges, and 24 live cartridges of other calibres. Authorities claimed the weapons belonged to Raees Khan and his brother Ayub Khan, who had allegedly concealed them ahead of the assembly elections. Police expressed concern that the Khan brothers' presence in Siwan could disrupt the upcoming elections. "The raid was based on a tip-off that a large cache of weapons had been stockpiled in preparation for the elections," said an investigating officer. One of the brothers was reportedly planning to contest the assembly election from the Raghunathpur constituency. Raees Khan had formally joined the LJP (RV) on January 15 at an event in Sahuli village, Siwan, attended by Union Minister Chirag Paswan. The arrested individuals were identified as Babu Ali Ansari alias Babu Ansari, Abdul Kalam, and Shamina Khatoon. Siwan Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Tiwary confirmed the seizure of weapons and the arrests. "Police received information that members of the notorious Raees-Ayub Khan gang were planning a major crime and had hidden illegal weapons in their homes in Gyaspur village. Shamina's husband, Reyaz Khan alias Sah Alam, is already imprisoned with Raees Khan," the SP said. Earlier, on September 21, Bihar STF and Siwan police raided Raees Khan's house in Gyaspur village and recovered illegal arms, including 47 live AK-47 cartridges, a pistol, a police-issued weapon, and narcotics. Four people, including Raees Khan, were arrested during that raid. Since then, authorities suspected additional weapons had been hidden, prompting continuous monitoring of individuals connected to Raees Khan. Police said Raees Khan has 43 criminal cases registered against him. One of the recovered weapons is believed to have been looted from a policeman killed in 2023. The Khan brothers, initially close allies of the late RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, later broke away to form their own criminal network and have long been regarded as his rivals....
