AIMIM to target RJD's stance, use Waqf Act in rally
KISHANGANJ, Oct. 9 -- All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has begun using Waqf Act and the Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) "obdurate refusal" to engage with Muslim voters, besides making the 'I Love Muhammad' slogan a central plank of its electioneering in Bihar.
In the 2020 polls, the party had managed to win five seats in Seemanchal by more vigorously championing the CAA-NRC issue than other 'secular' parties.
Muslims, traditionally considered the loyal vote bank of the Congress and RJD, now appear to be in a dilemma as these parties have not raised community-related issues as assertively as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and the party's Bihar unit president Akhtarul Iman have done.
"We are feeling dejected over the attitude of secular leaders. So far, the only political party that appears to be 'very close to our hearts' is AIMIM," a senior Muslim RJD leader said. He added, "Muslims have now realised that they were used as vote banks by these so-called secular parties in successive elections."
Mohammad Nasim Akhtar, once a hardcore RJD leader from Kishanganj, said, "As far as AIMIM is concerned, its leaders have been fearlessly raising our issues on public platforms, unlike other parties. We know our support to AIMIM may indirectly help the NDA, but we are happy to find our leaders in Owaisi and Iman, who want Muslims to lead their own community."...
