AIMIM to start protest against 'slow issuance' of domicile certificates
KISHANGANJ, Aug. 12 -- AIMIM Bihar president Akhatarul Iman announced to launch a protest by sitting on dharna against slow pace of issuing domicile certificates. He said his party would launch agitation in all the four districts of Seemanchal if the domicile certificates were not issued promptly. The certificate is one of the 11 documents required to apply for a voter identity card.
Iman attacked local administration for showing apathy in making residential/domicile certificates fearing a lot of people might be deprived of exercising franchise. In his appeal made to the people through a video message, Iman urged them to submit their documents as early as possible.
Iman, who alleged that lakhs of names were removed from the draft published after the first phase of SIR (Special Intensive Revision), expressed deep concern over the dilly dallying attitude of administration in issuing the domicile certificates.
"I fear the domicile certificates can't be issued even in six months under this pace of work," he said and demanded, "The certificates should be issued by holding special camps."
Over the issue of illegal infiltrators, Iman said, "I too want no Bangladeshi should be issued a voter identity card but at the same time no one should be deprived of exercising their voting right."
"We have launched our agitation in all the four districts of Seemanchal as Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar and Araria and almost everyday the party workers would sit on dharna," he said. He also raised the issue of step-motherly treatment of Seemanchal and said, "There is no problem anywhere in Bihar but Seemanchal's districts where people, especially Muslims, have been battling for domicile certificates."
A sizeable chunk of people in Seemanchal have no documents to prove their credentials as they are extremely poor.
In 2015, AIMIM stepped in Bihar through Kishanganj and tasted its first win in 2019 in Kishanganj assembly seat in a by-election after the then Congress MLA had resigned from the seat after winning LS polls.
Later the party went on to win five seats in Seemanchal in 2020 polls, pushing RJD to just one seat .
However, after two years in 2022, four of AIMIM MLAs deserted the party to join RJD....
