PURNIA, July 5 -- Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has written to RJD supremo Lalu Prasad for an alliance for the upcoming Bihar elections, suggesting that the party seems unsure of its 2020 performance when five of its candidates were elected, even though four of them had defected to RJD in 2022. In a letter dated July 2, which party leaders have shared on social media, party's Bihar president Akhtarul Iman has said that the inclusion of AIMIM in Bihar's prototype of INDIA bloc "will prevent a split in secular votes". Some observers of Bihar politics, however, deem AIMIM's last ditch outreach to RJD as a tactical move to send out a public message that the party, inimical to perception, is not a 'B team' of BJP and that it tried its best form a united front against the BJP-included NDA government in the state. Last week, its Bihar president Akhtarul Iman, also lone MLA of the party, has said that AIMIM had been trying to meet RJD leadership for an alliance and that in case of being spurned, it would opt for a solo ride or a front of alternative political forces. Iman has written to the RJD chief insisting on his party's intent to join Mahagathbandhan or Grand Alliance to oust NDA from power corridor in Bihar after they (RJD leaders) totally ignored AIMIM Bihar chief. "This (AIMIM inclusion in GA) will ensure that the next government in the state is formed by the Mahagathbandhan", Iman has claimed, adding that his party had tried to join the coalition in the last Assembly polls, too, and this time he (Owaisi) has already expressed his wish to "leaders of the Congress and the Left over the phone". "We want all secular forces to be united against NDA and hence we are leaving no stone unturned to make this assembly election a united force against divisive forces," Iman said, asserting that "we are fully prepared and we can go to the polls even in a much better way this time." He reiterated that regional parties are in their contact and they would emerge as an alternative power centre in Bihar, in case outfits like his are shrugged off by the GA. There is no official word from the RJD any constituent party of GA in regard to Iman's letter. Meanwhile, some leaders of RJD have suggested that the grouping is not going to consider plea of AIMIM. "We are not going to facilitate AIMIM joining our alliance as the party is popular among only a few pockets, exclusively among Muslims," a senior RJD leader told HT over phone requesting anonymity. He alleged that AIMIM had an image of being a 'B team' of BJP and the party's inclusion in INDIA bloc would only send an adversarial message to the public. However, he asserted that any decision in this regard would be taken by top leaders, indicating Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav. Seemanchal, comprising four districts (Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj), has 24 assembly seats including 11 Muslim MLAs....
